What I Love!

Family

I love my family! I have a wonderful mother and father. My mom is so strong, beautiful, funny, and caring. She is the rock that keeps my family grounded. She is most defiantly my role model. My father is my HERO! My dad is a colonel in the Army. He joined the Army when he was 19 in Puerto Rico and has worked very hard to provide a wonderful life for me and my siblings. He is currently serving his second tour (15-18 months) in Baghdad, Iraq. We all miss him terribly and are just counting down the days until he returns.

I have two sisters. My older sister has been married for 5 years and now I have a wonderful brother in-law. This June, my family grew even more with the addition of my nephew. He is perfect! His name is Bear and I promise you won’t find a cuter baby! He is the first grandson in my family and the first male to join our family. He is defiantly set up to be very spoiled. My younger sister is hilarious. She is always making my family laugh. I always have a great time when we go out together and it is always an adventure with her. My younger sister might be the most loyal and protective person I know. I am very lucky to have such great sisters. I can’t imagine what life would have been like without them. They are my best friends and know me the best.

Music

I love love love music. You can almost always find me with my music on way up loud! I love music that make you happy, music that makes you want to dance, and music that makes you cry. I just feel the lyrics. I often speak in lyrics to my friends. My favorite music tool is my I pod and I always have it with me. You never know when you might need to hear the perfect song. I not only like listening to my favorite music but also like attending concerts to see them perform live. The top three bands I love to see live are 1) Pearl Jam 2) Bright Eyes and 3) Damien Rice. I have seem all of them more then once and even drove all the way to Atlantic City to see Damien Rice.

Puerto Rico

I love going to Puerto Rico. My family is originally from Puerto Rico and I was actually born on the island. Spanish was the first language I spoke. All of my family, except my immediate family, still lives on the island. I love going to visit Puerto Rico for several reasons. I love to see all my family. It is nice to see my grandparents, aunts and uncles, and cousins. We are a very close family. I love all the things to do on the island. There are so many beaches to go to, there is a rainforest, old San Juan, and there are always celebrations to attend. Something else that is amazing on the island is the food. I love eating all of the traditional food when I go visit. Some of these foods are pork, rice, and beans.

Lost

This summer I started watching the television show LOST. I was immediately hooked. I have seen all four seasons this summer. Once I start watching them it is very hard for me to stop. I never thought I would like this show and maybe that’s why I never invested in the season while they were on TV. I am not really into science fiction/drama. After the first five minutes of the first episode I was glued to the show. I love all the characters and am emotional invested in them. I love the way the show keeps you guessing and always leaves you with more questions then it answered. My mom thinks it’s funny and may think I have a slight problem with my new love for this show. One of the things I love about this show is the way to makes lots of references to famous novels. There is even a book club which list of the books referenced in the show. This summer I plan on reading them all.

What I dislike:

Bananas

I know most people love bananas…Just peel and eat, cut up in cereal, or even dipped in chocolate. Not me! I don’t like anything about this fruit. I can’t stand the smell. I can’t stand the texture. They are so mushy. Mostly I can’t stand the taste. I don’t know why anyone would willing eat a banana.

Bugs

Gross! I don’t like seeing bugs or even worst touching bugs. I don’t even like lady bugs. They just really creep me out. I picture them crawling on me and then I can’t stop itching. Ewww, I hate it.

My Dad being so far away

It has been very hard having my father so far away. He has missed birthdays and holidays and just fun family nights. He missed the birth of his first grandson and will not even get to meet him until he is 6 months old. He has given up daily moments in all my families life. He has also given up a lot of comfort and safety most people take for granted. I once asked my dad why he went away to war? He told me that he fought so we (his family) wouldn’t have too. He is a great man. I can’t wait for him to come home and just hoping he will be here for my graduation in May.

Scary Movies

I do not like to watch scary movies. I get really scared and then I can’t sleep. It is not the way I like to be entertained with movies. I am not sure why I get so scared but I have always been this way. I get petrified when the scary music comes on and then my imagination goes wild for nights after. I have learned that it is just best for me to stay away from scary movies.

What I look like:

EYES

I have big brown eyes. When I was little I wanted them to be blue or green…anything but boring yucky brown. Know that I am older I love my brown eyes and I don’t think they are boring at all!

HAIR

I have long dark chocolate colored hair. I love long hair and I keep my hair pretty long. I sometimes get this crazy idea to cut my hair shorter and I always regret it. I also have very thick hair. The combination of long and thick hair can sometimes leave it looking like a bird nest if I don’t make sure to blow dry and straighten it.

HEIGHT

Short…I guess you could call me short. On a good day I am 5 foot 1 inch tall. I flip back and forth between loving that I am short and wishing I was taller. Overall, I guess a few inches couldn’t hurt.

How I act:

I think I have a great personality. I defiantly have different sides to my personality and my moods change often. I can be very shy around new people and new situations. I like observing before jumping right in. I sometimes wish I could jump right in. I guess adventurous is not a word I would use to describe my how I act. My friends and family would defiantly not call me shy! Around my friends and family I feel free to be myself. That can mean a lot of different things. I love to joke around and have fun. I am almost always in a good mood. I can get sad, annoyed, enraged and what I like to call “Blah”. I try and just go with my emotions.

What you should know about me:

I picked five things I think you should know about me.

1) I am very close to my family. I think I have made that very clear! I can’t think of anything more important that family

2) My older sister, our friend Misty and I created a club for seeing concerts. We are called the “Eskimo Friends” club. The manes comes from one of our favorite musicians Damien Rice

3) I’ve moved 10 different times in my live. I’m an Army Brat and so it kind of comes with the life. I enjoyed moving around. It was always a chance for a fresh start. The hardest part about moving so much was just leaving my friends behind. I am lucky because I’ve had the same best friend since I was 5. I think moving made me a better friend because I learned early that I had to work hard at the relationships with my friends, if I wanted to keep them.

4) I love to cook. I enjoy trying new recipes and making desserts. What I love more then cooking is having people over to eat. I love having small dinner parties. The best reward for spending a day in the kitchen is watching people enjoy the food.

5) I was a nanny her in Boone for the past five years. My first summer in Boone I began working for a family and their three small children. Dristen, Ryan, and Tessa I have watched them grow so much over the past five years. I love them so much and they are very much a part of my life. I couldn’t imagine loving my own kids any more then I love them.

  2. I didn’t realize that you, too, had recently become an aunt. When in June was your nephew born? Mine turned one June 2nd. It’s so much fun to watch them grow and spoiling them is exactly what we’re supposed to do.
I also understand your closeness with your family. Without mine, I do not know where I’d be. They are my rock and they keep me going.
It was nice getting to know more about you.

  3. This is crazy!!! I became an aunt for the first time on May 5th of this year!! This could be like an aunty support group! I already spoil my nephew soo much! I loved reading about you Maureen. I learned so much! Thanks.
